Peter Martyr reappointed as Group Chief Executive

International legal practice Norton Rose Group has today confirmed that Peter Martyr will continue as Group Chief Executive from 1 January 2012, the same day that leading Canadian law firm Macleod Dixon joins the Group.

The term will be for three years.

Peter Martyr has led the recent growth of Norton Rose Group which from 1 January 2012 will have more than 2,900 lawyers in 43 offices throughout Europe, Asia Pacific, Canada, Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

Norton Rose Group specialises in six industry sectors: financial institutions; energy; infrastructure, mining and commodities; transport; technology and innovation and pharmaceuticals and life sciences. Peter Martyr introduced the industry sector-led focus to the practice in 2003.  

Recent key events for Norton Rose Group:

  • January 2012: leading Canadian law firm Macleod Dixon will join Norton Rose Group adding 60 lawyers in Latin America, based in Caracas (Venezuela) and Bogotá (Colombia), a 13 lawyer office in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and a team of lawyers in Moscow. The Group’s Canadian operations will grow to around 700 lawyers, and will be known as Norton Rose Canada LLP. It will be a top three Canadian legal practice with a significant presence in each of the three main markets in Canada (Calgary, Toronto and Montréal).
  • June 2011: leading Canadian law firm Ogilvy Renault LLP and leading South African law firm Deneys Reitz Inc join Norton Rose Group, becoming Norton Rose OR LLP and Norton Rose South Africa (incorporated as Deneys Reitz Inc). The Group gains five offices in Canada and four in Africa and a sixth sector focus in pharmaceuticals and life sciences. The Group has since announced the opening of a fifth African office in Casablanca.
  • January 2010: Deacons Australia joins Norton Rose Group to become Norton Rose Australia. The Group gains five offices in Australia and an associate office in Vietnam, becoming one of the best resourced legal practices in Asia Pacific with 13 offices in the region.
